Ending thoughts/opinions (by Ashley C)

After reading all of our posts and the information we listed about teen suicide and depression, we all hope that you have become informed of the problem that is so prominent in today’s society. As a group, we created this blog for our final for a class called Faith and Media. Finishing off our senior year of high school we all just wanted to pass and graduate. Throughout the process of creating this blog, its safe to say we all took a step back and began to truly get into this project after seeing what a problem teen suicide and depression has become. With information we revealed we can only hope that the people who come across our blog will take a step back and read about something that someone very close to them can be suffering from. This started out as just a project for all of us but in the end became something much more. It became an eye opener that has shown us how with faith anything can be overcome. Teen suicide and depression is not a lifelong disorder. With the right treatment and a new, strong faith in God, a teen can get past this bump in their lives and continue to be the smart, strong, and healthy young person God had sought out for them to be. Always remember the causes, pre-disposers, and preventions if you think you know someone who is suffering with feelings of depression or suicide. For 24-hour suicide prevention and support, call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1-800-273-TALK.

  1. I never knew what a serious problem teen suicide and depression was until I looked at the statistics. After completing this blog, I am more aware of the causes, preventions, and true life stories of teen suicide and depression. Having s strong faith in God can get someone through a rough time that they are having in their life. As you can see teen suicide and depression is a very prominent problem in today’s society. If you struggle or know of someone who struggles from depression or had attempts of committing suicide, remember that the first step is to talk to someone about it and get help as soon as possible. People around you are willing to help. The National Suicide Prevention Lifeline which is mentioned in this blog is another great support system to go to for help.

  2. I always knew in the back of my mind that teen suicide and depression was a problem but nothing close to the reality and severeness of it. People around me in school seem to be happy and completely fine but now I sometimes wonder if that is the case behind closed doors. I'm sure many people do not want to put themselves out there and show people that they are depressed but making the problem known is the first step to becoming cured. To all those that are hiding their problems, there are people out there like us that are willing to help you achieve your nirvana. There is always help out there, you must gain the courage and will to help yourself.

  3. After doing research about depression and teen suicide I learned something new. I learned that people who suffer from depression mostly likly have a bi-polar disorder as well. Taking Evan, for example, was bi-polar his entire life and it wasn't until his parents took him to the doctor that they found out he was a teen who really needed help. This project made me more aware of the things that happen in the world everyday with people who suffer from depression. Since teen suicide and depression is not a lifelong disorder and CAN be cured I can say that I feel much more prepared to advise someone who has thoughts of suicide and will be more prepared to get them the help that they need. We all seek help at some points in out lives, it all depends on those who listen and actually help that will make a difference.
